Transformational Counseling

Rev. Rainbow Johnson has been a professional counselor since the 1970s.  She counsels individuals, couples, and families.  Her methods focus on short-term transformation and rapid, even radical progress as contrasted with traditional psychotherapy approaches where the therapist provides a listening ear but no tools, techniques, or exercises.  Rev. Rainbow will have you do exercises to visit places inside you that you and a traditional therapist would never approach or even consider.

How can this approach yield rapid results which would come only after years of conventional therapy, if at all?  There is a simple explanation: this progress is not free.  You will pay for it with your sweat and your tears and your fear and your courage and you will own it because it is yours.

Counseling Credentials

Rev. Rainbow has the following counseling credentials:

  1. She holds a Master's degree in Educational Counseling from the University of California at Northridge.
  2. She is an ordained minister of the United Church of Religious Science.
  3. She is a licensed practitioner of the United Church of Religious Science.

Counseling Experience

When people need professional help for a personal problem, they go to a minister or a therapist.  Rev. Rainbow has an overlapping set of experiences as a minister and a counselor.  Her background includes the following kinds of counseling experience:

  • She has provided vocational counseling to young adults in central Los Angeles.

  • As a minister, she has worked with individuals and families during all of life's most intense challenges: physical and mental illness, death, divorce, incarceration, family and work relationships, "who am I" questioning, low self-esteem, and more.

  • Since 1992, hundreds of people have graduated from the classes at Austin Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program and virtually all of them have spent an hour with Rev. Rainbow.  In some cases, they have continued as private clients.

  • Rev. Rainbow counsels dozens of individuals around the world via telephone.

  • Rev. Rainbow has worked as a Religious Science practitioner since the mid-1980s and has performed many thousands of Science of Mind treatments since she began!

Counseling for Individuals

As a minister, Rev. Rainbow has counseled individuals since the 1970s.  She has been working with recovering alcoholics and drug addicts since 1992.

Her approach is eclectic.  For example, she uses several Gestalt techniques, plus some original experiential methods, to assist her clients to release, forgive, and transform painful past experiences into freedom and power.  She may also use ritual, accountability techniques, rage release, myth, possibility thinking, and dream interpretation, always concluding each session with Spiritual Mind Treatment (5-step affirmative prayer).  She listens with the heart to hear what is needed and joins, supports, and guides her client on the Journey to Empowerment and Freedom.

Counseling for Couples

Engaged couples can benefit greatly from premarital counseling, as can any couple who is having relationship challenges.  Rev. Rainbow offers:

  • Premarital counseling
    • Informal (one or more sessions)
    • Formal (a multi-session process developed by professional counselors to identify and solve or prevent standard problems)
  • Counseling on couple issues for married or unmarried couples with different or same sex partners

Premarital Counseling

If you are a couple who wants to make a truly informed marriage decision, you will want to meet with Rev. Rainbow in a series of structured sessions based on a popular and successful premarital counseling program.  Explore such areas as the patterns of relationships and problem-solving in your two families.  What do your family trees look like?  Who gets along and who doesn't and why?  How will you make decisions as a couple?  How will you resolve disagreements?  How will you handle money?  What do you want and expect from your mate?  Explore the dimensions of your love and your future life together, with a loving, transformational counselor.

Family Counseling

Rev. Rainbow counsels family members either together or separately.
